What it is: Healthvit Biotino Plus is a pack of 60 tablets from the Indian supplement brand Healthvit. It combines biotin with zinc, selenium, copper and iodine, plus grape seed extract and coenzyme Q10 (Co-Q10). At the manufacturer’s suggested dose of two tablets a day, one pack lasts a month.
What’s in Healthvit Biotino Plus
Healthvit lists the following actives and other ingredients:
- Biotin (vitamin B7)
- Zinc
- Selenium
- Copper
- Iodine
- Grape seed extract
- Coenzyme Q10
- Other ingredients: calcium carbonate, dibasic calcium phosphate, anhydrous lactose, maize starch and croscarmellose sodium (a tablet disintegrant)
The brand states the tablets contain no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives. The retail listings we checked do not give per-tablet amounts, so check the carton for exact figures.
What the nutrients do
This is a vitamin-and-mineral formula rather than an Ayurvedic herb, so the relevant information comes from the authorised nutrient claims:
- Biotin contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and normal skin.
- Zinc contributes to the maintenance of normal hair, normal nails and normal skin.
- Selenium contributes to the maintenance of normal hair and normal nails.
- Copper contributes to normal hair pigmentation and normal skin pigmentation.
- Iodine contributes to the maintenance of normal skin.
Grape seed extract is a source of plant polyphenols called proanthocyanidins. Co-Q10 is a compound the body makes itself and that is found in every cell. Both are included as supporting ingredients, and no authorised health claims apply to them.
How to take it
The manufacturer suggests two tablets a day with your main meal. Taking minerals such as zinc with food also makes them easier on the stomach. At two tablets a day, the 60-tablet pack lasts 30 days. Hair grows roughly 1cm a month, so most people stick with a hair-focused nutrient routine for at least a few months before judging it.
Who it suits — and who should check first
- Suits: anyone who wants biotin together with the key hair-and-nail minerals in a single tablet, rather than biotin alone.
- Not vegan: the tablets contain anhydrous lactose, which comes from milk. They are not suitable for vegans or for people who need to avoid lactose.
- Blood tests: biotin can interfere with some laboratory tests, including certain thyroid and heart tests. Tell your doctor you take it, and ask whether to stop it a few days before a blood test.
- Doubling up: if you already take a multivitamin, check the combined zinc, selenium, copper and iodine intake. Do not exceed the stated dose. If you have a thyroid condition, check the iodine with your GP.
- The brand advises anyone who is pregnant, nursing or taking medication to consult a doctor before use.
How it compares
High-strength biotin-only tablets, such as 5,000 or 10,000mcg products, provide one nutrient in a large amount. Biotino Plus instead spreads its contents across biotin and four trace minerals. If you also want zinc and selenium, which both have authorised claims for nails as well as hair, a combined formula like this is the simpler choice. If you only want biotin, or want to avoid lactose, a plain biotin capsule is the alternative.
Common questions
How many tablets a day?
Two, taken with your main meal, according to the manufacturer. A pack of 60 therefore lasts one month.
Is it the same as Healthvit Biotino 10000?
No. Biotino 10000 is a high-strength biotin-only product. Biotino Plus adds zinc, selenium, copper, iodine, grape seed extract and Co-Q10.
Does it contain dairy?
Yes. It contains anhydrous lactose as a tablet filler.
Can I take it with a multivitamin?
Check the minerals first. Many multivitamins also contain zinc, selenium, copper and iodine, so taking both can push your intake higher than you need.
