What it is: Kapiva Organic Shatavari Powder is a 100g pouch of pure shatavari root powder (Asparagus racemosus) from the Indian Ayurvedic brand Kapiva. It is a single-ingredient powder with no blends or fillers listed, and it carries USDA Organic and India Organic certification.

What’s in Kapiva Organic Shatavari Powder

  • Ingredient: shatavari root powder (Asparagus racemosus). Kapiva describes it as 100% pure root powder.
  • Form: loose, fine powder. It is not an extract, so it is not standardised to saponins or any other marker.
  • Certifications: USDA Organic, India Organic (Jaivik Bharat), non-GMO, and made in a GMP-certified facility.
  • Pack size: 100g.

Because it is the whole dried root, ground down, it tastes mildly sweet and slightly bitter. That is why it is usually stirred into warm milk rather than taken with water.

How it’s traditionally used

Shatavari, whose name is often translated as “she who possesses a hundred roots”, is one of the best-known rasayana (rejuvenating) herbs in Ayurveda. Classical texts such as the Charaka Samhita describe it as a nourishing, rejuvenating root. In Ayurvedic tradition it is considered sweet and bitter in taste and cooling in nature, and is used to balance Pitta and Vata dosha.

It has long been part of Ayurvedic routines for women at different life stages, from the monthly cycle through to later life. Traditionally it is taken in warm milk with a little ghee or honey, which in Ayurveda is said to carry the herb’s nourishing qualities.

How to take it

The manufacturer suggests mixing 1 teaspoon of the powder into a glass of milk, stirring well, and drinking it twice a day after meals. Kapiva recommends taking it consistently for around three months.

At that dose you use 2 teaspoons a day. A level teaspoon of fine root powder weighs roughly 3g, so the 100g pack lasts about two and a half weeks. If you plan a three-month routine, you will need around five or six packs. Plant milks such as oat or almond work well if you avoid dairy, and a pinch of cardamom softens the earthy taste.

Who it suits — and who should check first

  • Suits: anyone who wants a traditional, single-herb shatavari with no capsule shell or excipients, and who is happy to mix a powder into a drink.
  • Diet: the product is plain plant root powder. Kapiva does not make a formal vegan claim on the pack, but it can be taken in plant milk.
  • Age: Kapiva states it is suitable from 16 years upwards.
  • Check first: if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a hormone-sensitive condition, or take hormonal medication, speak to your GP or pharmacist before use. Avoid it if you are allergic to asparagus or other plants in the same family.

How it compares

Powder gives you the whole root and lets you adjust the amount, and it costs less per gram than capsules. However, you need to mix it, and you will notice the taste. Shatavari tablets or capsules are more convenient for travel and taste of nothing, but each one usually contains only around 500mg. If you want something stronger per dose, extracts standardised to saponins are the alternative to plain root powder.

Common questions

Can I mix it with water instead of milk?

Yes, it will mix into warm water, but the manufacturer’s directions use milk. The traditional pairing with milk also helps mask the slightly bitter note.

Is this an extract or the whole root?

It is the whole root, dried and ground. Kapiva lists it as 100% shatavari root powder with no added extract or carrier.

How long does one 100g pouch last?

At 1 teaspoon twice a day, the pouch lasts roughly 16–17 days. Once a day, it lasts just over a month.
