Tata 1mg Omega-3 Algal DHA Capsules

£14.99

Tata 1mg Omega-3 Algal DHA – capsules of vegan omega-3 algal dha. A vegan food supplement, sourced from India and batch lab-tested for purity.

SKU: B0FBMCT17J Category: Brand:

What it is: Tata 1mg Vegan Omega-3 provides DHA from algal oil rather than fish, making it suitable for vegetarians and vegans. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and normal vision (with a daily intake of 250 mg). Made by Tata 1mg, one of India’s largest healthcare brands, and supplied as the genuine Indian pack, batch lab-tested and shipped from India.

Omega-3 taken straight from the source. Fish do not make DHA; they accumulate it by eating algae. This capsule skips the fish entirely and takes the DHA from cultivated marine algae, which makes it genuinely suitable for vegetarians and vegans — and free of the fishy aftertaste that puts people off cod liver oil.

How to take it

Take as directed on the pack, with water and preferably with a meal containing some fat — DHA is a fatty acid and absorbs better alongside food. Check the pack for the DHA content per capsule, because the authorised nutrition information above applies at a daily intake of 250mg of DHA.

Nutrition information

DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal brain function and to the maintenance of normal vision. These beneficial effects are obtained with a daily intake of 250mg of DHA.

Under UK law we may only state nutrition and health claims that appear on the Great Britain Nutrition and Health Claims Register, and those claims belong to the specific nutrient rather than to the product as a whole. Where no authorised claim exists we say so, rather than implying something we are not permitted to state.

In detail

Algal DHA versus fish oil

The omega-3 in oily fish originates in algae; the fish are simply a step in the chain. Taking it directly from cultivated algae removes three problems at once: it is suitable for vegetarians and vegans, it does not carry the marine contaminant load that makes fish-oil purity a talking point, and it does not repeat on you.

Why this is rare in the UK

Holland & Barrett sold 52.9 million cod liver oil capsules in a year, so British demand for omega-3 is not in doubt. What is much harder to find here is a vegetarian and vegan version at a sensible price. Tata 1mg’s algal DHA is not stocked by any UK Ayurvedic retailer we are aware of.

About Tata 1mg

Tata 1mg is part of the Tata group and runs India’s largest online pharmacy. Their supplement range is manufactured to Indian pharmaceutical standards.

Buying this in the UK

We ship this pack from India directly to your UK address. Orders are dispatched within 24 to 72 hours and take 5 to 7 working days in transit, so most arrive 6 to 10 working days after you order. UK delivery is £4.99 flat, and free on orders over £100.

We are registered for UK VAT, so on orders up to £135 the VAT is charged at checkout and there is nothing further to pay when your parcel arrives. On orders above £135, import VAT, any duty and a carrier handling fee are payable by you on delivery — our shipping policy sets out exactly how that works.

What arrives is the sealed manufacturer retail pack with the batch number and expiry date printed on it, which is worth checking the moment it turns up.

Questions people ask

Is this suitable for vegans?

Yes. The DHA is derived from cultivated marine algae, not from fish. Check the capsule shell material on the pack if you avoid gelatine.

Will it taste of fish?

No. The fishy repeat associated with cod liver oil comes from the fish oil itself. Algal DHA does not have it.

How much DHA do I need for the nutrition claim to apply?

The authorised claim applies at a daily intake of 250mg of DHA. The DHA content per capsule is printed on the pack — read it and work out your serving from there.

Should I take it with food?

Yes, ideally with a meal that contains some fat. DHA is a fatty acid and absorbs better that way.

Does this contain EPA as well?

Algal preparations vary. Check the nutritional panel on the pack, which lists exactly what is in this product.
